Bike IU Indianapolis

A bicycle can be a major investment. You can help protect it by registering it with IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services.

Registering your bicycle is easy and free. You will receive a lifetime IU Indianapolis Bike Permit and access to park in the indoor Tower Garage Bike Storage Room or the Health Sciences Bike Storage Room. A permit serves as a visible theft deterrent and may help to recover it if lost or stolen.

Permit Placement

Affix your bicycle permit to the frame or front fender of the bicycle. Do not use tape, magnets, string or other materials to attach the permit.

Get a Free Bicycle Lock

When you register your bike with us, you can receive a free U-Lock to help keep your bike secure.
Locks are limited to one per person and must be picked up in our office.

Bicycle Repair Stations

There are six bicycle repair stations located throughout campus where members of the IU Indianapolis community may perform basic maintenance.

Bicycle Storage

When registering your bike you can also request access to park in the indoor bicycle storage rooms located in room 1008 of the Health Sciences (RG) Building and the Tower Garage. Both rooms have bike repair stations.

To access the Tower Garage room, enter the garage and follow the directional signage to the bicycle storage room in the southeast corner.

To access the Health Sciences room, enter the first floor of the Health Sciences building on the north side (near the dock area and lot 10). The room number is RG 1008.

When you fill out the bike registration form select “Yes” on Tower Garage section of the page and agree to the Liability Disclaimer. Crimson Card access will be granted as space permits, allowing you to enter the storage facility.

Bike Removal and Recovery

By choosing to ride a bicycle on or around campus, you are subject to the rules and regulations set forth in IU Policy FIN-INS-13.

If you are having issues locating your bicycle, contact us at 317-274-4232. Contact IUPD at 317-274-2058 if your bike has been stolen or vandalized.

Bicycles parked illegally, appearing abandoned, or are causing a safety hazard may be removed at your expense. We will attempt to contact the owners of registered bicycles before removal. A warning sticker will be placed on bikes prior to confiscation.

Illegally parked or abandoned bicycles that do not cause a safety concern will be removed 72 hours after notification. It is lawful for the university to remove locking devices in order to impound a bicycle. IU Indianapolis is not responsible for damage to locking devices and/or bicycles that require removal.

Note: Impounded bicycles left unclaimed for 60 days will be sent to IU Indianapolis Surplus for public auction.

Bicycle and Road Safety

Bicycles are a vehicle. It is your responsibility to learn and obey the rules that apply to you as a cyclist.

Always ride with the flow of traffic, and never on sidewalks or other pedestrian walkways, on grass or non-paved areas, or in University buildings.
Wear a helmet.
Dress in bright colored or reflective clothing.
Yield to vehicles and pedestrians.
Obey traffic laws and signals.
Be heard - use a horn or bell.
Use hand signals and look before turning.
